Grade 12 Result 2017 Overview
Regarding the 2017 12th-grade national exam results, the Honorable Minister of Education, Professor Berhanu Nega, gave a press statement. The Minister stated that out of the 674,823 students who sat for the national exam, 36,409 students, or 5.4%, achieved a passing score. He also noted that the number of students who passed increased by 9,114 compared to last year.
Additionally, he reported that 28,158 students, or 9%, in Natural Sciences and 8,251 students, or 2%, in Social Sciences passed the exam. Furthermore, 1,221 students were recorded as achieving excellent results, which is an improvement from the 220 students recorded last year.
The Minister highlighted that one student from Tigray Kalemino School in the Natural Sciences stream scored 675 in the Tigray region. In the same year, another student from Addis Ababa’s Agziel Cathedral School scored 575 (female student) in Natural Sciences. In contrast, another female student from Ethio Parents School in Addis Ababa scored 538 in Social Sciences.
The Minister emphasized that all regions and city administrations performed better, while 1,363 schools recorded no passing students. Lastly, the Minister mentioned that students who scored 50% or above would be eligible for direct university admission, while some students would benefit from the remedial program.
